I've got two of them: Sublime and Pan's Labrynth. With Sublime, I felt so sad and happy at the end of that movie. It was a hard movie to watch. With Pan's Labrynth, I thought the movie was pure genius. It made you realize the beauty and innocence in the world.

Sublime

"V for Vendetta" was the first movie I've seen in probably 15 years that really made me go "wow". The subject matter, the visuals, and the use of music just made the film fantastic, to me.

"Pan's Labyrinth" also moved me. That movie is nearly perfect. It's so wonderful, yet so heartbreaking.

X-men

A Few Good Men
Shawshank Redemption
Ghosts of Mississippi
A Time To Kill

These all were great stories, one of them true, all had great endings, unexpected, or expected and great actors.

Run Lola Run for its fast-paced action and thought-provoking subject matter.

The Sweet Hereafter for the seriousness and drama of the film.

There's usually a handful every year.

This year - it was "No Country for Old Men" - just for its sheer breath-taking intensity, one of the best thrillers ever.

Last year it was "Babel" - it really moved me to tears, very few movies ever do that.

Before that I don't know - "The Sixth Sense" best surprise ending ever; and "Memento" really clever screenplay.

"Star Wars" isn't common! You must be younger if you believe that! When "Star Wars" hit the theaters, it was like no science fiction movie before because more money had been poured into it, and they had used computers to track shots. The whole approach breathed life into a genre. What an amazing movie the original trilogy were to us and still are! Here are my uncommonly "WOW" movies:
Star Wars saga~all six!
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
Jurassic Park trilogy
LOTR trilogy
Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow
POTC trilogy
Star Trek series, especially Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Jason & the Argonauts
Blade Runner
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Dragonslayer~Vermithrax pejorative is still the best dragon of the cinema!
Fantastic Voyage~My dad took me to see this one. He guided me into a full appreciation of science fiction/fantasy/horror.
Forbidden Planet~Yes, I remember it vividly though I was a child when I saw it in the theaters.
2001: A Space Odyssey
King Kong (original)~NOT the PJ remake!

Maybe it's been a long time since I've been in the theaters, but most movies might be very good, but I love science fiction and being dazzled visually much more. There are quieter films I've responded to, but none of them made me go "Wow!" They might have been thought-provoking but never wow-provoking. I listed movies that made us come out of the theaters, ready to say, "You HAVE to see this movie!"

For example, I love "On Golden Pond" and have watched it more than 100 times. But, I didn't think, "Wow!" "Tommy" was dazzling, so much so that my sister and I sat through it five times, from matinee to last show! They used to let you do that. It might have been nearer to a wow moment.

My all-time favorite film is "Romeo & Juliet" (1968), which I fell in love with at first sight. I've been in love with it for near 40 years. But, I didn't grab someone and say, "See it!" Actually, I didn't have to because most Baby Boomers fell in love with this movie, too.

Occasionally, there were movies that practically everyone went to see and that were held over: Sean Connery's James Bond movies, "Summer of '42", "Bonnie & Clyde", 'Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid", "The Lost Boys", "Fright Night", "Grease", "Saturday Night Fever", "Jaws", "Crocodile Dundee", "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Play 'Misty' for Me", "Daddy's Gone A-Hunting", and others that became popular through word-of-mouth.

It's likely that I'm not giving you anything that you wanted to hear. I've been a movie fan more more than half a century. I'm not blase, but it takes something very special to stun me.

The Fifth Element - every time I see it

It was an awesome marriage of real time and computer graphics that I have ever seen. The storyline was remarkable, and all the characters were so well developed.
Plus there was so much going on: The Diva, the aliens, Leelu's language....Gaultier's clothes!! It was all so on point!!

Son in Law is very funny.
Dirty Dancing is a classic , as well as Pretty Women.
The Last Boy Scout (action), Double Jeopardy(suspense/drama), Second Hand Lions (such a good story), Pay it Forward (another great story), One fine day (good romance comedy), The Tomas Crown Affair(action/romance/comedy), Erin Brockovich (based on true story), and the Italain Job (action) are some of my favorites.

V for Vendetta i agree, but Jurassic Park too :)

The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the desert- Funny story and amazing costumes

The rocky horror picture show- Tim Curry...enough said

The Fountain- wow that was terrible to the point where it was funny

Pulp Fiction --- the way the story was told was really good the characters were cool and so was the music .
The Usual Suspects --- wow he got away !
The Sixth Sense --- the only time I heard an entire theater room go " Oh Wow ".
Shaw shank Redemption --- everyone loves the way he got away !
Pool Hall Junkies --- " I bet I can tell you where you got your shoes . ! " see the movie for some wows & the answer.
Star Wars 1-6 ( my fav. is "The Empire Strikes Back " ) --- there are a very few movies that get appluase at the end . this is one of those movies !!!
Godfather , E.T. , Forest Gump , Goodfellas , The Departed , Clay Pigens , Bull Durham , Lord of the Rings , Contact .......

I really enjoy movies that confuse the hell out of me. The kinds that I have to watch more than once to actually understand what is happening. Some movies that did that for me was:
The Departed
Pirates 3
Blood Diamond
What Dreams May Come
Black Snake Moan (not for the kids)
Lord of The Rings
