Am I the only one who hated "JUNO"...????!

Question: I mean my sister and my niece loved and I mean LOVED this movie; but I could not stand it!

First off - it had one of the most desperate, pretentious, self-conscious screenplays in the history of cinema - so full of self-important, witty and unrealistic dialogue it was hard to escape that this whole thing screamed WRITTEN and therefore none of the people or situations rang true. When one honest scene did surface late in the film, it seemed jarring, out of place.

And second - where was the art of film-making here? Where was the cinematography, the art direction - it was so stagy and claustraphobic, I swear it could have been filmed in my own living room!

But that was just my opinion - just curious if anyone else hated it as much as me - or if everyone is raving about it like my sister and my niece did?

I agree with you, in part. The sometimes lengthy and convoluted dialogue seemed so well memorized and rehearsed that it was kinda phony and didn't come off as natural. Few people could come up with such witty lines and comebacks as young Juno did spontaneously. But I still really liked the movie and could easily watch it again.
The best part, i.e., the most sincere part, of the script was here, I thought:
Juno MacGaff: I need to know that it's possible for two people to stay happy together forever.

Mr. MacGuff: Look, in my opinion the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what-have-you. The right person is still going to think the sun shines out of your a_ _.

I thought it was cute. I didn't hate it but I can see your point. I think after "Little Miss Sunshine" did really well they tried to give it the same kind of realistic cutiness. But you're a perfect example that it might not of worked for everyone.

Gee, you make me want to see it. Up until now I had completely ignored it. lol I'll make sure to let you know. ;)
