Fashion during the movie "Grease"?!

Question: My class has received the the movie "Grease" as our theme for Spirit Week. We have to dress up as they did in the movie and I was wondering what kinds of fads, trends, or fashion styles were in at that time. (The movie was released in 1978, if it helps.)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It may have been released in 1978, but it takes place in the 1950s. :)

Poodle skirts, sweater twinsets, ponytails, bobby socks, saddle shoes. Neck scarves, tied at the side. Headbands with poofed hair, if it's not in a ponytail. For more casual, slim-fitting pants (not jeans) that go below the knee.

If you're going for the 'rebel' look, go with tight pencil pants like Sandy wore in the last scene of the movie.

The movie will give you great ideas. Hope that helps!

They copied the 50's and 60's look.

Well the movie is supposed to take place in the 1950's or about then so the fashion would be like what they wear in the movie. Ponytails, skirts, pullover sweaters, bobby socks etc. The fashions from when it was released are completely different so I'm not sure which time period you are asking for. Why would you have "Grease" as the theme, but dress up in 70's garb?

If you haven't seen the movie that is your best bet so that you can have a look at the clothes it was set in the 50s, bobby socks, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, pony tails, jeans that are rolled up at the bottom and guys wore t-shirts and rolled their cigarettes up in the sleeves, for dances or parties girls may have worn short frilly dresses.
