Denzyl Washington and Johnny Depp's character choices?!
Question: Both of these men are extremely talented actors. Do you notice they usually play the same types of characters?
Denzyl; Real people in leadership positions. Military officials, doctors, principals, teachers, coaches and psychiatrists. Courage Under Fire, Remember the Titans, Antwone Fischer, American Gangster, The Great Debaters.
Johnny: Exotic, eccentric or odd characters that may be fictional. Pirates of the Carribean, Benny and Joon, Edward Scissorhands, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Sweeney Todd.
I enjoy their work. Why don't they stretch and get out of their box more? It is because if you excel at something, stick with it? Are they hesitant because they think they may fail if they try do play a character that is too different from what they have been playing for so long? They don't want to jeapordize their careers? Does anyone know?

I don't think its really Johnny and Denzel who go after these characters (thats just my opinion) I mean I know they go on set auditioning for a character but its the director or whoever that sticks them with this character because they are best at it. Maybe they just know what kind of characters they would be best at and go for it. If you think about all of people they played in their movies, you can't think of anyone else who would play them better.

It is their comfort zone. Denzel, you're right, is always playing a strong black male, first black______. Depp is always eccentric. They like that type of character. Depp wasn't eccentric in Finding Neverland though.
wha? i don't really get the question but i love Johnny's characters! they're so different, weird, out of the ordinary roles and they r sooo good! Johnny is an amazing actor! =]
They are also shrewed business men, if you think about it. They know what sells at the box-office. Why change something that works so well and the public loves to see? I have absolutely no problems with both these actors staying to form that we have come to expect and that is why I am such a big fan of both men.
