What is the meaning of the scene in Godfather when Al Pacino proposes to the sic!

Question: I don't speak italian. Is he flattering the father? Is he threatening him? Both? Should I memorize this speech, prance into the local italian cafe and use it to ask for the proprietor's daughter the next time I buy espresso?

Seriously, what is the meaning?

In the scene where Michael is walking with his bodyguards and he 1st sees Appolonia, he is as his bodyguard says struck by a lightening bolt (kinda like love at first sight). And so when he realizes that she is the owners daughter he sincerely wants to marry her, then he reveals himself as Michael Corleone and that since he has given that information she would lose a father instead of gaining a husband. If he didn't want to marry her he would never have brought himself to light of who he is. I hope this helps.

I have to watch the movie to understand the italian part.... I haven't watched them except for the first one :(
