Why does the scene change fast in I Am Legend?!

Question: At first there is nobody in New York, then there is the army, cops, and a lot of people in the scene. Then it goes back to nobody in New York, then the army, cops, and whole bunch of people again. This pretty much continues throughout the movie. Is is suppose to be like this?

Ahah, Yess. It is suposed to be like that.
The scenes where people are their is when Dr.Nevelle is remembering, Hes remembering how it was before the world became sick and his wife and kid died. 3 years before. When there is no one there and he is alone and the city is destroyed, that is the present.
:]

Yes. When they show all of the people, that is when Will Smith is dreaming. They want you to know what happened and how all of this started and what happened to his family. If they didn't show us that then we would wonder what happened before the timeframe in the movie.

those are flash backs
