Rock/Pop /Songs in Movies -->?!

Question: It used to be that Songs were played DURING the movie and in-context with the scene -- nowadays, it seems that more & more are played at the end of the movie during the credits - and then get an Oscar Nomination for Best Song. This seems ridiculous to me.

Any thoughts on this - Can you pursuade me to think, otherwise?

I mostly agree. When you think of Oscar Nominated Best Song, you think of songs that were actually incorporated into the story line and made sense...Titanic is the only example I can think to back me up.

The only way I can see end credits getting nominated, is if the song was written especially for the movie and the lyrics reflect the story line. Although it was barely played (if at all) within the movie, a good example is Broken by Seether f/Amy Lee (from Punisher).
