Answers: they would have to be the shittest lamest crap eating junk that people call movies. i wouldnt classify them as movies

man i hate musicals. i can't stand any musical i've ever seen. its all the random singing make it STOP

You don't know about that.

Songs have always told stories. Musicals are an acquired taste to be sure.

Hey, hey, hey. Just chill! if you don't like them, DONT WATCH THEM watch wut ya say buster

....and you are entitled to every word of your opinion....

So all movies should be what you want to see and the heck with everyone else? Ever been to see a stage play? I guess I was lucky way back in my rock n roll days and a good friend tood me aside and taught me appreciation for all types of music and cinema. The one nice thing about movies is you don't have to pay to see it. Wish we could do the same with TV and get some better programming on. . .

As I read your question, my husband has AccuBroadway playing in the background on his computer ... and we are both LOVING IT. If you don't like musicals, then you don't have to watch musicals ... I don't like 'chick flicks' and prefer watching sci-fi or fantasy or 'action' movies (YES I AM FEMALE) but I don't put something down just because I don't like it. In fact, I'm glad there are chick flicks and kids movies and others out there, so I can sit in the theater and watch the movies I like with my husband and we don't have to stand in line for hours and be crowded when we sit. Different strokes for different folks ... so just don't watch musicals or listen to musical tunes, and you should be JUST FINE. Now have a very merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate, if any) and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Seriously, sometimes you are better able to convey emotions through singing than through talking.

It is merely an extension of the Music hall and less pretentious than opera

because it was the only thing there was before radio or TV. in some European country's -every night is a musical at their local pubs. and native American still have a story teller woman who passes down their history in songs. so go figure?
oh and johnny depp and tim burton have a spokie musical coming out at Xmas- it's all a matter of taste. but i don't like them either or opera.

You are entitled to your opinion. I know I will not get best answer for this because I totally disagree with you.
But you must remember that the movie musicals were made based on smash Broadway hits. I will agree that there a lot of musicals that I did not like, as a lot of other movies that were no good. But there are some great ones. Have you taken the time to watch "South Pacific", "Chicago", "West Side Story" or "Phantom of the Opera"? How about "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"?
And in answer to some of the other posters, most people that like the musicals are not gay, just more sophisticated then you.

To annoy straight people. I guess its revenge for so many years of keeping the gay man/woman down.

There are some plots just too boring to get through without music, singing and dancing.

They were originally created as an interrogation method for suspected terrorists.

for money

They invented musicals to torture us all.
