Question about movie releases...?!

Question: I was looking forward to seeing "Reservation Road" as I had read the book. It opened in November but only to a limited number of places and now I can't find it playing anywhere in my state. What is the purpose of a "limited opening" and never to be seen again? I really want to see the movie.

Also, how long is the wait between showing in theatres and ending up as a video rental or DVD for sale...? Thanks for answering.

They open certain movies in limited release because they are harder to sell, and the combination of "word of mouth" + critical reviews is important.

In the case of "Reservation Road," the reviews were pretty bad and the film didn't go very good business in limited release, so they never put it into more theaters.

Personally, I was excited about the movie too, but found it to be a huge disappointment. Despite an interesting premise and a brilliant cast, "Reservation Road" just wasn't very good.

It'll be on video in early 2008.

I may be wrong but I think this film is due for DVD release on the 22nd of Jan. I am really wanting to see this film also so I will defo be buying it.
