Explain some of the techniques that Steven Spielberg has used to create tension in Jurassc Park

I think it's a tool used in film to get the audience to invest themselves in the story and it's characters I think it's what drives the film foward, if your waiting to see what sequence is going to happen next and the director is only giving you so much ( but it still has your attention ) before he finally gives you the pay off that's just good story telling. And Spielberg is one of the masters of bulding tension w/ camera shots ( not showing you the antagonist or only showing you quick shots) and he uses music as a way of building tension ( John Williams) other specific tech. that he used in Jurassic Park was the "ripple effect" in the cup of water when the T-Rex was approaching, you didn't see it but you knew it was coming,
and when it finally did show.... I remember seeing Jurassic Park in the theatre when it first came out, there was this little boy sitting in front of me w/ his parents ,this kid was so excited about this movie, he couldn't sit still but when that sequence w/ the T- Rex happend that kid was scared s#@t less his face was buried in his mother's armpit. It reminded me of the first time I saw Jaws in 1977. I said to myself this guy is scaring the hell out of a whole new generation of kids still to this day.

Easiest way to describe tension:
You know the scene towards the beginning when all the power goes off. Everything is silent. And then there are ripples in the water. There is a distant sound--a rumbling. And then, of course, the T-Rex appears.

Tension is the build up to a climatic scene or moment. Tension creates attention. If Speilberg just had the T-Rex appear with no build up, that scene wouldn't have been nearly as interesting nor exciting.
