According to screenwriters Elliott and Rossio, that was actually intentional.
I don't understand why they chose birds, but I still find it to be really nice little tid bit.
William Turner's name was originally supposed to be William Bear, i read somewhere..
But then the writers noticed that his name would be sticking out, and that since the other characters had bird names, that he should also.
But i thought that article was incorrect, because i didn't know Turner was the name of a bird, now i do, and now i know.
