In Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix...?!

Question: at the end when Sirius and Harry and everyone are fighting the death eaters, Harry disarms Malfoy and Sirius says, "Good job James" and then doesn't correct himself and Harry doesn't say anything. Mind you, I haven't read the books, but was curious as to what that was about.

Answers: at the end when Sirius and Harry and everyone are fighting the death eaters, Harry disarms Malfoy and Sirius says, "Good job James" and then doesn't correct himself and Harry doesn't say anything. Mind you, I haven't read the books, but was curious as to what that was about.

Sirius Black was James Potter's (Harry's Dad) best friend. All throughout the movies and books, he tells Harry how much he reminds him of James. In the OOTP book, there is a little arguement between Molly Weasley and Sirius about Harry. Sirius wants him inducted into the Order of the Phoenix and Molly says he is too young.
"'He's not a child!' said Sirius impatiently. 'He's not an adult either!' said Mrs. Weasley, the color rising in her cheeks. 'He's not JAMES, Sirius!'
'I'm perfectly clear who he is, thanks, Mollly.' said Sirius coldly.
'I'm not sure you are!' said Mrs. Weasley. 'Sometimes the way you talk about him, its as though you think you've got your best friend back!'

Sirius feels as though being this close to Harry is like having James back. That is why when they are dueling, Harry LOOKS LIKE James and Sirius gets caught up in the moment and says "Nice one, James!" He has been cooped up at Azkaban for 12 years and now is a prisoner in his own home because he is a wanted man and has to stay hidden. He is happy to be fighting again and gets caught up.

Also, I think they put it in the movie because if you remember Snape's worst memory, when James lifts him in the air, Sirius says "NICE ONE, JAMES!". I think this hits Harry hard because the last time he heard that, Sirius was telling James nice one for being so cruel to "Snivellus" (snape).

I hope that is what you are looking for!

it just shows that Sirius was reminded of Harry's father by the way Harry was fighting.

james was harry's father, harry looks just like him, James died when harry was a baby fighting the dark lord, Sirius is Harry's Godfather and he was James Best Friend

you should DEF read the book because it's good! but it's wasn't a mistake..he was supposed to call him "james" (harry potter's father) because back when sirius and james were in hogwarts, they were always together and always causing trouble/fighting together...it just reminded him of old times with james..that's all.

James is Harry's dad... James & Sirius were best buds. The book talks about how sometimes Sirius treats Harry more like James, his friend, than Harry his godson.

James was the name of Harry's dad, Sirius probably said it because in the books it say that Harry's "fighting style" is very similar to his dad's. Sirius and James were very good friends, and he probably said it because he felt as if it was James at his side again.

Obviously it's because James was Sirius's best friend. This "slip-up" was to signify has similar James and Harry truely are.

Really even I was thinking the same. And the movie was really bad compared to the book.

also, harry was very proud of the accomplishments that his father made (i.e. giving his life for his family) so i took it as harry accepting it as a compliment. in the books, whenever some1 mentioned his father, he felt pride

i can't really remember but i think he recalled a memory when James (Harry's dad) had Luciouse like that... and then he died...

That particular dialogue (Sirius accidentally calling Harry "James") isn't in the books, but it's entirely consistent with Sirius's character.

Sirius and James (Harry's father) were best friends when they were young, and Sirius mentions several times (in both the books and the movies) how much Harry reminds him of James. In the scene with the Death Eaters, Sirius is probably so overjoyed at standing shoulder-to-shoulder with someone who reminds him so much of James Potter that he gets caught up in the moment and calls Harry "James." Harry doesn't correct him because at the moment they've all got bigger things to be concerned about than getting names right!

All of the previous answers are correct, but it also shows something significant about Sirius - after 15 years he still hasn't let go of James' death.

personally i think it was the screen writer trying to show how sirius was proud of harry and harry should know he's so much like his father. i think it was a stupid comment and until seeing the movie a number of times and trying to come up with a positive twist on it.....

James is Harry's father. Sirius has yet to get over not being able to protect James and Lilly nor the pain of losing them. He often refers to how much Harry is like James. He thought he was with James in the old days.

sirius thinks of james whenever he is around harry because they seem so much alike and he keeps forgetting that he doesnt have his best friend back he has his godson.
