"The Audition" is crazy. It is so disturbing that it will scare you and make you kringe. It is from Japan but you will never see anything like it. Also try Wes Cravens "The Last House on the Left." Both of those movies have stories that are about real life and are terrifying.

All three of these bothered me for quite a while after I saw them.
exorcist, im sure if thats how u spell it, when it came out in theaters, since it was so loud and scary people died because of heartattacks.:)
I was honestly and truly scared when I saw The Ring. I have been a horror movie person since I was 12 and they never really bothered me. I saw The Ring and followed my husband around the house and refused to be alone in a room with a tv for like a week. It was unreasonable and childish, but I felt like a little kid and I was truly frightned.
The original "Night of the Living Dead"
If you are looking for a genuinely scary film i say you check out the original The Wickerman with Christopher lee, scary as hell. Nothing more frightening in my entire life.
The Ring scared the crap out of me. I didn't really get all the hype of The Shining; it wasn't that great to me. But the Korean film The Eye was scary. And Signs was pretty creepy.
It takes alot to scare me and I was rather disturbed after watching Signs.
Maybe because I was 8 years at the time but the scariest movie is The Omega Man.
