What is your opinion on the most realistic World War 2 Movie?!

Question: I just watched Das Boot, and realized that special effects really have nothing to do with the realism of the film, it is more script and cinematography.

I have not been to war, though I know folks who have been, even in WWII... they never seem to want to talk much about it... not a very pleasent memory. I read a book by Steven Ambrose about D-Day and from the description of that book... the landing scenes from "Saving Private Ryan" seem the closest. Also, "Band of Brothers" is a great watch. War is horrific... I'm not sure any movie can do justice to that fact.

Saving Private Ryan

Then why call it the most realistic WW2 movie?

Realism as in the horror of war?

The opening sequence in Private ryan.

I wasn't there...have to ask someone who was.

Schindler's List

but i know a really realistic one is
'home on the western front'
i think thats what its called
its really realistic with its facts on WWII

Saving Private Ryan, Windtalkers

The Longest Day

Band of Brothers tv series and Saving Private Ryan.

Saving private Ryan

Pearl Harbor
Sophia's Choice
Schindler's List
Varians War
Diary of Anne Frank
The Hiding Place
Too hard to just name one there are too many facets of the war to consider.

Saving Private Ryan. Many WWII vets said it was very realistic, even the sound effects. One vet said he did'nt know how they found the right sound for a certain make of tank.

The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)

Great Movie
