It was called The Day After and I saw it about 20 odd years ag. It was very scary back then and it still is. Look up the following link to find out more about it.

The movie is called "The Day After." The first answer is right, but there is a better synopsis at the link below. I remember being bummed out by the sudden tragic ending.
