Golden Compass--a fat disappointment? *possible spoiler*?!

Question: I loved these books (and still do) and was HORRIBLY disappointed in the movie.

The timeline is out of order, Lyra doesn't figure sh*t out for herself (which I feel detracts from her character, as in the book this makes her more clever and not just a kid that's being handed the answer to everything), the back-stories of some of the characters have changed (ie Iorek's being tricked into killing a bear, not being defeated in combat like in the movie or how about how the bear king's name has changed from Iofer Rankison to something that sounded like Rangfur? and he killed his father then covered it up...but not in the movie!). Also Billy Costa being the kid with the daemon "Ratter" as soon as I heard him call his daemon in the first 5 minutes of the movie I was like "OMFG THEY ALREADY MESSED UP"

The only positives, to me, were that Lee, Serafina, and Mrs. Coulter were as I imagined and the armored bear CGI was done well (in exception to their story being completed screwed up) Opinions?

I totally agree with you. The book is really complicated and I can understand that it would be hard to translate it to film but I am really disappointed with what they did. I dont understand why they changed some of the things that they did - there was no reason for it and it wouldn't have been any harder to keep it the same. I was really bored with it and I just hope they can somehow redeem themselves in the next one but I dont see how. I know that the movie cant be exactly the same as the book but I was hoping a little more of the actual plot would be the same!!!
