The Symbolism of 'running' in the movie Forrest Gump?!

Question: i just got done watching Forrest Gump on A&E tv, and was curious to all the mentions of running. Forrest runs from bullies, he runs in the war, and he just runs to run later on in the movie. Jenny also runs; she runs from her problems, from Forrest, from her father. i was curious of what people made of all the mentions to running in the movie? what do you draw from it, and what conclusions do you come to?

additionally, i wondered why Jenny is always running from Forrest, the one man who would give her un-conditional love? there is also a scene that is pivitol, but i'm not sure what it means, where the morning after Jenny and Forrest make love she calls a cab and the cabbie says, "where you running to?", to which Jenny replies "i'm not running". (again with the running analogies and themes)

what do you all think?

i really like your question. anyway, to me, they were always running toward each other though they didn't necessarily know it. and when they didn't know how to deal or why they were in a situation, they always ran until they finally ran into each other. so, when jenny is leaving, she's no longer running. they were together for a brief moment but the running could end and life could progress naturally from there. sort of speeding toward your fate and one of those short times in your life that is supposed to be perfect so that you have the faith that life IS good and you continue on hoping for that next perfect moment. obviously it's subjective, but that's what I always thought.

Interesting question. Forrest did indeed rum from bullies and later he did run in the war. But was his running from cowardice? Ah he ran from bullies to survive without a beating. He ran in Vietnam to save a comrade in arms. And later during a time of extreme personal distress he ran to forget and when he came to terms with what was hurting him did hi stop running? I don't know what do you think? Keep in mind Jenny ran from abuse and later fell right back into it. Did Forrest? I don't know, actually I enjoyed the movie, not what English teachers wanted me to see and evaluate.
