Answers: 1. How did the main message and/or reality of Islam change Malcolm X?

2. What does Malcolm X's realization teach us about following the fringe of a religion as opposed to the mainstream of that religion?

1.) I think it changed Malcolm the same way it would change anyone in that situation. He was in the middle of Harlem during the civil rights era, fighting not only for a religion but for a nation of black people being mistreated ( i think this clouded the more "religious" way of thinking into freedom and rights for his people instead of being able to just preach about islam) Then he steps off a plane for his pilgrimage of Mecca only to find that the everyday problems faced in the U.S. weren't faced in Egypt. He was able to interact with different races and see "the big picture" if you will, that as long as we're worshiping the same god, why should color matter, spending years fighting about freedom and color to going on a 5 week trip and realizing, it might not matter all that much after all, interesting isnt it?
2.) Well i feel you've sort of anwsered the question while stating the question, Malcolms "late lesson learned" teaches that you shouldn't focus on the mainstream of religion. It doesnt matter what religion your in, there will always be politics involved, and if you center yourself around these politics instead of the teachings of the bible your gonna miss "the big picture"
p.s.
This could be Spike Lee's greatest film...
