Which classic works of film, literature and music do you think is terrible?!

Question: Be honest now. You know what I'm talking about-the well regarded classics that are so well regarded that if you say anything against them, you'll get ripped apart. No personal attacks please. We all have opinions and there's no need for conflict.

Stairway To Heaven- Yes a good song, but honestly, there's a good 4 minutes of that song that could put anyone to sleep. Not to mention Zep has way better songs.

Catcher in the Rye- How many times do I have to hear someone saying this was their favorite book, because the last time they read was when they were forced to in high school?

Eraserhead- Possibly the DUMBEST movie I have ever seen. If you say you liked this movie, you're either a) a liar, b) way too obsessed with being different and artsy, or c) out of your mind on acid.

The Deer Hunter- This could possibly be the dullest movie about Vietnam I've ever seen. Yes there are some great scenes in that movie, but there's so much dull script you have to sit through just to get there. Just skip to the russian roulette already.

U2- It's tough to decide who'se the biggest criminal in music these days, Britney Spears calling her stripping soundtrack music, or U2 with the rate they recycle their own songs. The first time I heard Vertigo it sounded so familiar, and I couldn't put my finger on why. Then I took a listen to Elevation one day and it hit me: Elevation and Vertigo are practically the same song. Like their song Beautiful Day? Listen to Sunday Bloody Sunday, you'll realize why. How about Stuck In The Moment? Strike three, You might want to listen to the song One again. U2 has the best con going in music, and nobody seems to notice, well I'm calling them out.

Hope this amused you all at least, cause it was definatly fun to write. Good question

A Tale of Two Cities. Heck, anything by Dickens.

If I had to either read Dickens or be struck with a baseball bat, I'd give serious consideration to the bat.

Personally, I think Orson Wells is the most overrated of all the classic filmmakers. I think (personally only, I'm not an expert)..that his films are so obvious and tiresome...like Citizen Kane, for example. What a piece of yeah, well 'duh!!

But then, I like Orson Wells as an actor...I think Orson Wells in Jane Eyre was fabulous.

It might not be a classic in the strict sense of the word, but I really can't stand "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. All the people I know have read it and constantly go on about what a great book it is. I've started it 10 times (with the intention of finishing it) but I couldn't get past the middle or so.

Another writer I can't stand (held in very high regard here in Greece) is Nikos Kazantzakis.

I also dislike Schumann's music. And as far as other forms of art are concerned, Dali's paintings have left me indifferent till now, I don't understand them no matter how much I try.

"Breakfast at Tiffany's " (film). Very boring.

The best question I've read here, by the way!

(I'll try to think of more)...

Cry the Beloved Country and anything by Jane Austen.

"A Separate Peace" and "Ethan Frome" are both superb novels which were poorly translated to the motion picture form.
