Seriously, whats with plot twists?!

Question: Too many movies are doing this. They take a really crappy story and then discard it for a twist so you walk away going man i didnt see that happening. I saw it happening when the story had no fiber. I seriously walk away feeling more stupid for wasting my time watching a plot that had nothing to do with the plot. I understand twists in crime shows and horror movies you movies that have real mystery dedication but not in random movies. i feel like its just a way for writers to come up with cheap crap that these movie studios will buy. What are your thoughts?

Exactly... That's how I feel about many movies, especially "The Departed"... People said, oh it was sooo good because of the plot twists. To me, it was horrible because I really expected so much more with all the hype, the acting & accents seemed terrible. Just so happens that some highly recognizable actors made it an OK movie.

Well not all plot twists are bad. I saw Awake this weekend and the plot twists were intense.

It would help if you had an example or a specific movie in mind. Well, apparently, the majority of the people love plot twists. It's why movies are so popular. Well, if the plot was crappy in the first place, I don't see what's so bad about a plot twist.

I think writers do this to hold the viewers attention which often has the opposite effect on viewers. Typically a heavily twisted plot is used to distract viewers to other deficits in the film such as poor acting or lower budget.

i think you are right and they go on strike and get more money for that mess

I don't know about too many movies doing it - but it is a frequently used plot device that has been with us for many, many years.

You can even go back to some of the classical writers (let alone films) to see the plot twist being used - Dickens uses it often, for instance.

If a film (or a book, or a play) is badly plotted, then no amount of twists is going to save it. A good plot twist in a tightly plotted context is a valid and workable device, irrespective of what style the plot is (doesn't have to be crime or horror) but, like any device, overuse will lead to boredom.

I was a movie freak myself and I love reading books! But when i see one of the books i read turned into a movie, i get bored, and mad because when the movie is about to start i'm already hyped up because i already know wats it about. After the movie is done i'm pissed off because they changed everything! The plot in the movie was less appealing than the regular story. I actually learned that the more you watch movies the less you'll like to watch any new movie thats coming out. Even though it looks cool and like something you've never seen before, there's still going to be a same plot you've already seen before. And that really does SUCK!!!!
