Answers: Yes .He was a very urbane and witty Englishman whose

Yes, especially back when him and Liz where together, i.e. Cleopatra and Marc Anthony.
My friends and I discuss this alot, who would be a good Bond.
If I had to pick an American Actor, It would have been Brendan Fraiser, (The Mummy) (I wanted him to play the older Anakin Skywalker too)
Liam Nieson would be a good Bond too.
I always thought Mel Gibson would get it too.
No, but he would have made a good spy (and was one in the film "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold")
I doubt that Richard Burton would have been athletic enough for the role. I don't think people would have accepted him as James Bond, but he did make an espionage film, "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold". [EDIT: WOW! This got a mention while I was writing my answer! Now, you know it's a good movie!]
Picturing what Burton did in films in the Sixties and what would have been demanded from him in Bond, I say, "No." There are many others who could have done it at that time. You have to remember that Burton had problems with drinking and wasn't always considered reliable. I doubt he would have had the physicality required or the public image. The focus was on Taylor/Burton~generally more her than him.
So far, it's 2 for 2.
There is only ONE James Bond...Sean Connery.
