Can anyone out there tell the difference between a movie theater and their livin!

Question: I have given up going to a theater to see a movie. Between people talking to each other, talking on cell phones, and talking back to the screen, I just can't enjoy it any more. My question is this: How did we come to this sad state of affairs where people are free to behave rudely in public and no one (like the theater ushers) has the b*lls to put them out?

Great question! I agree with a lot of the answerers on here for a couple of reasons. The first is that I do believe all manners have gone out the window. People just don't care any more if they are inconveniencing others, as long as they get what they want. And what people apparently want is to have that "living room" experience of talking, eating, and carrying on private conversations, in a public movie theater.

The second thing I agree with is that there may be some justifiable fear involved on the part of the ushers. It has happened too many times that people get shot in movie theaters, to the point where the poor usher doesn't want to put his/her life on the line for their minimum wage job.

Luckily, movies come out so quickly now on DVD, and so many people have great home theater systems, that we can almost get that movie theater experience (WITHOUT all the annoyances) in our own homes. Maybe you've outgrown movie theaters just about the time they've become obsolete anyway!

your living room is free

It's the DVD generation. People have gotten so used to having theater-quality video and sound in their high-tech living rooms where they can do whatever, that they figure "movie = do what I want".

The other problem is that people nowadays have an attitude of "It's all about me" so other people's feelings aren't a factor.

the one thing that annoys me is when people eat right next to me...like a big ol bag of popcorn or chips. it takes away from the movie only being able to hear CRUNCH CRUNCH in my face for an hour

Sad to say it but everyone now is conceited. They think they deserve the right to do anything and no one can tell them otherwise. It's mostly due to a generation of parents who don't care what their children do. Everyone is rude and annoying and they don't care if it costs their reputation. I've had all of these problems as well. If you start yelling at them and make a scene, usually they will either stop or someone will come take care of it.

When was the last time you saw anyone do something nice for a complete stranger? When was the last time you heard anyone talk about the 'golden rule'? For me it's been years.

Everyone is so quick to pull the racist card or start a gunfight. People have become very violent and there seems to be no consequences for their behavior.

I agree! When confronted by such rude people, I remember an old saying here in South Florida," An armed society is a polite society!"

Also, remember that Dr Lector dined on "free range rude!"

out of the last four movies, only one of them didn't have a crying child in it...and these movies were late at night!!!

manners have gone out the window! but i haven't complained yet...which i should..i didn't spend 10 bucks to hear a crying child!!!
