Is it a mistake for the "new" Star Trek movie to be about the younger !
Question: Star Trek 11 is a mistaken on many levels, but being essentially an "episode 1" style prequeal, is not the worst. (Although there is no way the fan base can possibly be satisfied by the casting).
ST11 will almost certainly deviate from Star Trek continuity and established canon lore. Much like that "Enterprise" rip off. the love and care for the series is gone, all that remains at this point is blatant commerical explotation.
Books have long been written, published, circulated about the pre-kirk-ian years. whole books dedicated to each character's academy days. And now, without the Roddenberry touch, it'll be done wrong, and it'll suck. Heck they'll probably include some liberal media vendetta snippit about the war in Iraq, just to be "relevant today".

Yes because there are sooo many discrepancies you will notice, if you are a Trekkie.
The Star Trek movie would be better showing the next evolution of Star Trek. Enterprise was a good show but never caught on. The Zinda, lack of transporters, and tractor beams to name a few decreased interest in the show. Star Trek themes have always been about larger themes mixed in with the wild west. A futuristic Star Trek would have been more successful than a show about the younger years of the crew.

there's even a book out right now thats a leads up to the movie
and lots of cameos by original cast too
