yeah i usually go to the movie first then if it is good i will get the book, i think the only books i have read before the movies are Children of Men and I am Legend, and most of the comic book movies

depends. but i cant read a book after ive watched the movie cause i cant use my own imagination on things

i always read the book first.

example: i finished the last page of war of the worlds as we pulled into the parking lot of the theater.

i always like knowing what the real deal is before i see the truncated/edited/hollywood version

Actually, I find that watching the movie then reading the book is better for me. Generally, I feel less disappointed and the book goes more smoothly (especially for the boring ones). My favorites are To Kill A Mockingbird and The Color Purple. Both are powerful books and great films.

I love reading it first. but sometimes i switch it up.
Idk though it changes
I generally like to read it and then see the movie cause then when i read it it will be my own imagination and alot of times the book is better anyways!

yes

most of the time i read the book first..... but for the ones i don't i almost always go to the library after the movie and get the book

Sometimes I will read the book after I have seen the movie, but that is usually only when I didn't know there was a book.

Mostly, however, I read the book first. Then I go to the movie and get annoyed at all of the changes or omissions. I prefer the movie in my mind.

I completely agree that the book What Dreams May Come is excellent. I know I saw the movie, but I don't think I was as impressed as the book.

Also, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a OUTSTANDING book, but I just didn't care for the movie-despite its winning best picture, etc.

Other notable books turned into movies: The Prince of Tides, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Color Purple.

not necessarily, you can if you wan't but it's not the end of the world if you don't, depepnd on the movie/book.

Almost never! "The book" is often usually much better than the movie. Most movies today are remakes of other movies or adaptations of novels and such and they don't do them any justice! So if you like to read, buy the book first. If not, then keep on doing whatcha been doing!

movie first then read book

I used to read a lot; authors like Stephen King and Dean Koontz and Clive Barker ... but most of their books or short stories have not translated well to movies (several exceptions as far as Stephen King but there are some stinkers out there too!) ... I don't have so much time to read anymore which is unfortunate but if I like the movie enough I will try to get the book.

Like Brokeback Mountain; saw the movie first and loved it, then bought the short story. I re-read the Chronicles of Narnia:The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe before I saw the movie; I had last read the book about 20 years ago.

Good question :)

Usually I read the book first, though sometimes a movie will inspire me to get the book. I think the last book I read after seeing the movie was Running with Scissors.

Yeah I have done that did it with Jurassic park and also the Perfect Storm. I actually got hooked on Michael Crichton books for awhile and read Sphere before it was a movie it was awesome to see it on the big screen very well done.

Stephen Kings you almost get disappointed because 90% of the time his books are so much more detailed and well gruesome compared to the movies. Like Misery for instance.
The hobbling scene where she smashed his ankles with the sledge in the book she hacks his feet off with an axe.

So in some cases the book is alot better then the movie.

I usually read the book first. Then try to catch the movie. I read House and now I am waiting for the movie to come out. Otherwise I dont think I would see the movie it I had not read the book.

I try to read the book first. A few years back, I read "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and then saw the movie, and I kept telling my 10-yo niece, "Wow, it's just as I imagined it!" It turns out, that two years earlier, I had seen an extended preview when I saw "Jurassic Part III"

Anyhow, I do try to read first!

It is better to read the book first, get your own ideas on the meaning, how it would look etc. then see the movie, which inevitable in someone elses opinion on the book. Although sometimes you may read the book and hate it, but love the movie.

i saw the rainmaker and runaway jury after i read the book and i thought the movie sucked! they could have done so much more with the plot.
