Do you go by a critics review before seeing a movie or buying a book?!

Question: I never have. How does a critic know what kind of movie or book, I'm going to like? I have gone to movies and read books that were bombed by the critics but found them to be good.

Sad thing is, a lot of movies and books don't get the advertising they need because they didn't pay off the critics and didn't get the good review. All you got to do it look in the video store at all the new movies that you never remember being the in theater to know that it's true.

I don't let them decide what i like. I usually talk to my friends who have similar tastes. I also tend to see the movie or read the book anyway, even if people say it is no good, i like to decide for myself.

The critics and I never agree. When they pan a movie, I end up loving it. So if they say it sucked, I'll be sure to see it. And vice versa if they liked it... I won't go see it.

I don't any more.

No... only you can be the judge of what you like. Think of all the wonderful movies and literature you could miss out on based on someone else's opinion. Sad

i never listen to what the critics say, i usually check and see what regular people say about it when they post reviews, but even then if i think it looks good i will see it, I have never not seen a movie because of a bad review, but i have seen some because of a good review

I read the reviews in the local paper all the time, so I have a pretty good idea of their critics' tastes. It's not so important to how good the critic thinks the movie is, but knowing his taste and seeing what he likes and dislikes gives me a fair idea of whether I'll like the movie. For the most part, I do find that a one-star or no-star rating indicates a real stinker, but even there I sometimes think the critic has just totally missed the point of some movies.

Then there are some movies that just shouldn't be subjected to rational critical analysis. For them, we need to bring back Joe Bob Briggs: http://www.joebobbriggs.com/drivein/1996...

i think people have bought their opinion, i wait until it's on cable
