Answers: I know that the book was written by a very strong athiest man who doesn't like the Narnia series. Is it true that the children in the movie kill God in the end?

The book is about a girl named Lyra's travel to the North to save her friend, Roger, after he is kidnapped by an underground church-funded research group who are performing inhumane tests upon children in attempt to destroy what they believe to be the physical manifestation of original sin.

The 'golden compass' allured to in the re-name (the original name is 'Northern Lights') is a compass shaped device that measures truth when asked through divination, that Lyra acquires and learns to use to aide her mission.

The whole story is filled with an array of interesting parallel universal characters from barge dwelling gyptians (similar to gypsies), armoured talking bears, figureheads of the church (known as the Magesterium), witches who fly upon hand-held tree branches, and more.

Don't let the religious 'hype' over the books or the film scare you off, remember how they flailed over Harry Potter for absolutely no reason?

does it matter? its a good book and opens peoples eyes to the truth. god is just an idea anyways

oy with this stuff already, can't people just let this go, always some bandwagon to hitch to isn't there? If you want to see the movie go, if not stay home.

the person above is correct God is just an idea, he is your idea of who you want him to be and everyones idea is different, plus you can forget an idea but you can't kill it.

I am not sure about that but all i know is that they are on a journey to find the Golden Compass

That doesn't happen until the third book, but the religious overtones have been muted

Ok got to say this... they story is a work of FICTION!!!!! People are getting so worked up like it is set in our reality.
There are talking animals people!!!!!!! I can just see the book burnings coming where every book that contradicts an idea is comdemned to death. I just read the book and gee, just another fantasy story that is now a movie. Whoopee!!

all i know is that i hope this movie is banned. anyone who believes in christ should not see it.

Never read it, but thanks for the points.

The answer is yes... the children kill God (who is portrayed as a bad guy and liar).

In the books (trilogy) - the author, Philip Pullman, portrays Christians as "bad guys" and the "good guys" fight church authorities that kill children by getting help from homosexual angels.

Many of the religious elements have been removed from the movie so that Nicole Kidman would be in it.

Not my kind of book or movie. jmho
