Answers: What are some factors in making that awesome movie, awesome????

It's what's called "the suspension of disbelief", where the audience loses themselves in the film, and thinks it's real, experiencing the emotions and events for themselves as they happen, instead of with detachment. Theme as opposed to plot -- along with great casting -- is an important element. Alfred Hitchcock called this "The MacGuffin". It's the plot that the audience follows, but which -- takes a back seat to the characters themselves. Sure, the story is followed. But what the audience is REALLY interested in, say in Hitchcock's "Notorious", is what's going to happen to the apparently star-crossed love-affair between Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. Want to see one of the great erotic scenes of all time? Watch as she whispers in his ear -- EXACTLY how she's going to cook a chicken for dinner for him. Whether or not they'll find out what the ugly Nazis are doing... at that moment, the audience has forgotten all about that, just as the two of them have. This way, when the plot returns with all its twists, we're emotionally involved ourselves -- not just riding a roller-coaster.

The stuff that modern-day dolts like Peter Jackson foist on us: Hitchcock, curling his lip, called this "photography". There are some fine modern-day directors to be sure, and stars, too. But so much is decided and eventually based on FX, sequeling and star-power that the actual maker of the film and emotional impact often get lost in the shuffle. Not to mention the horrible current trend of re-makes. We're often left feeling the way you do after a Big Mac and a King-size Coke as opposed to a great meal and fine wine. Even potentially great modern films don't seem to be able to reach a climax, so to speak -- or when they do, it seems labored and forced. "Seven" comes to mind.

Action doesn't preclude making something really moving, nor should (as is just as often the case) sentiment mean there's no action. Take 'Apocalypse Now', or 'Little Big Man' for example. In these films, it's as if the director has had a sort of vision, whole and mystical like a dream, so that in making the film there's time to include the peripheral vision that makes life as interesting as it is -- as opposed to the linear way that cookie-cutter feeling that cinema like, say 'Spiderman' or "Star Wars' has.

To quote the late-great critic and actor Oscar Levant: "People think that Hollywood is just made of phony tinsel. But when you look underneath, you know what you find? Real tinsel."

A production team that works together in choosing all of the skilled persons necessary to make the film a success. Everyone from the camera operators, script assistants, and so on, to the director and actors. Each must do his/her job to perfection.

The result must be flawless. To decide if the film is awesome, we have the audience. So, each and every movie made is a gamble. And, sometimes, the gamble pays off.

1. Perfect actor/actress (with no bad reputation)
2. The writer create a world for the viewer to imagine
3. Good CG and visual effect
4. Story that inspires people, esp based on true story
