Big disappointment in Transformers?!

Question: I know that it has been a couple of months since it was release and it is now on DVD but I was totally disappointed in the movie. I felt that the storyline on the Transformers themselve was just background to the live-action characters in the story. I thought that Micheal Bay didn't stay true to the who the Autobots were or the rivalary between them and the decepticons. Is it just me or is there anyone else that was let down concerning the movie?

edit:

I'm not concerned about the style of the Autobots or the Depticons (although I though that Frenzy should have stay true to what he was in the cartoon). I talking about the overall feel of the movie. I went to see Transformers and say a movie about a guy, a girl, some soldiers and a couple of robots (made in Japan).

Some things are best left in cartoons and comics. But I would say he did a pretty good job on the film. It's probably the way he would like to tell the Transformers story. The other thing you have to consider in a real live movie are the cost of special effects and the props used to do them.

For example, the first Spider-Man movie had him shooting webbing from his wrists when the original in the comics portrayed him designing web-shooters. Still the comic version of Spider-Man has now adapted to the one in the movies.

It's all basically creative license so to speak. You have to take it with a pinch of salt every time they bring a comic or cartoon to the big screen. The directors try to squeeze in with build up to as much as they can for a movie that lasts 2 hours or so for a story that has taken years to do while trying to maintain as much originality to the story itself.

i agree badely.

the first hour alone was boring as hell.
