Cab someone explain a certain 'plot element' about the movie "The N!

Question: Everything worked for me in the movie. I was able to understand the numerology and how the characters and sub-plots were tied together - except for one thing.

At some point in their relationship, it is implied that Agatha becomes aware of Walters past, that's why all his stuff was in that foot locker. What I fail to understand is why would she buy him the book (that he wrote before he lost his memory) if she was aware of his deeds?

Was she the true killer and framed Walter?

Was she that oblivious to the possibility that Walter would recall his past and risk her marriage?

It just doesn't make sense for her to have given him the book. Me and the crowd that watched it last night were having a heated discussion about it. I'm not usually stumped for an explanation, but I can't come up with an answer for this one.
