Hi. I answer this question a LOT, so at the risk of repeating myself, here goes.
Good scares, good gore - Wolf Creek (head on a stick, anyone?)
The Japanese/Asian movie scene has churned out some top notch creepers - Ringu, Dumplings and the best of all - Audition. The last one is slow to begin with, but the last 40 mins more than makes up for it. Ichi the Killer is a brilliant movie and the uncut version is widely regarded as one of the goriest things you're ever likely to see. (Braindead AKA Dead/Alive is gorier IMO, but not as good a movie).
Funny Games is being remade with Naomi Watts in the lead. Please, I implore you, if you are going to watch this movie - GET THE ORIGINAL AUSTRIAN VERSION! Before Hollywood and the hype ruin it. Most of the gore/violence takes place off-camera but that doesn't make it any less compelling (and slightly disturbing) to watch.
The Exorcist was a great movie in its day, but really only scary if you believe in the God myth.
If you want disturbing movies, then you could do worse than checking out David Lynchs movies. 'Begotten' on google video keeps coming up in conversations about disturbing/horror movies - personally I think it's boring arty farty crap, but other people rave about it so who am I to argue?
I've done a lot of research on these genres and a lot of sites seem to be confusing rape/torture porn with horror. If you want original storylines with sometimes excellent gore and an actual chance of being creeped out, go for the Japanese titles I've already mentioned. If you like them then google Takashi Miike and go nuts. You won't be disappointed.

definitely the exasist but don't wacth it I hear it is REALLLLLLLLLLY scary!

pumpkinhead

The Blair Witch Project is one of my favorite Horror movies. Some other good ones are, like you said, the saw series, all the Texas chainsaw massacre movies, and 30 days of night is pretty cool. I also heard the that the mist(hasn't come out yet) will be pretty cool.

I like signs and the village their really good.....but their not gory, but really well directed.

The last guy was right regardless of the creative spelling. The Exorcist is the scariest movie ever made. The special effects and film quality are dated and really fake looking by today's standards. But Jason, Freddy Krueger and Pinhead are chumps compared to the Prince of Darkness when it comes to movie villains. I saw the movie in the theater in the 70's and have not been able to sit all the way through it since without losing my nerve.

1.Exorcism of Emily Rose
2.Poltergeist
3.When a stranger calls

My all time favorite movies are the scary movie series- they sound scary, but they are actually hilarious comedies!!!!!!!
I have never laughed that hard in my life!!!!
(If you do get them, watch the third and fourth one, the other two arent quite as good.

The OLD ones are the BEST!

Older ones:
Don't be Afraid of the Dark - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069992/
The Texas Chainsaw Masacre (the original)
The Exorcist (the original)
Dracula (the original one and the newer one "Bramstoker's)
The Howling
Pet Cemetary
Children of the Corn

Newer ones:
The Ring
The Grudge
All the Saw movies (especially the first one)
The Gate
Seven
28 Days Later

There's way too many to list.

Oh yeah, can't forget 'Hell Raiser'.

PUPPET MASTER and PHANTASIM!!!

I totally agree with you about the saw films, however I would also recommend the Hostel films (the sequel has even more gore). My fav horror films are Pet Semetary, Cujo, and Slither which is very creepy!

1.wrong turn
2.wrong turn 2
3.the desent
4.carrie
5.cabin fever

Some of the old horror films are the best..i used to hate them..but i checked a couple out..
Here are a few FREAKY ones

Halloween (1978)
Halloween II
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers.
(You Don't need to watch 3,6,7,or 8, it literally KILLS the plot..lol get it??)
Saw
Saw II
Saw III
Saw IV (If you want to go to theaters)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
--This was the first scary movie i've ever seen, and it scared
the pants off of me, completely terrifying, not as much now, because i've went back and seen it thousands of times, but if you havn't seen it, you'll LOVE this one.

These are the best movies..
They've all freaked me out, loved all of these movies,
the Halloween series became addicting to me!

Happy Thanksgiving!
T.M.

The Descent is by far the best horror movie to come out recently. Wolf Creek is also scary, but it takes a while to get into it, so if you're not patient, don't bother with it.
I know you said you don't like old movies, but The Exorcist is the scariest thing you're likely to ever see. Trust me!

hi plenty to choose from ive just watched == 30 days of night & new halloween good horror also new species all good bye
