I don't think he would have had a "job" in the Republic. I think Anakin would have "shaken" things up in the Jedi Order as a whole by showing them just out of step with reality the Order had become. No doubt that he would have been elevated to the rank of Master sooner than later. If they were to go on power in the Force he would have probably taken over for Yoda as the Grand Master of the Order after his death but I don't think that would have happened as I have the feeling that Anakin would have been somewhat of a "maverick" like Qui-Gon had been and like Luke has become in the books. He would have been the one "rocking the boat" on a regular basis ... maybe "maverick" isn't the word to use ... I don't know how to describe other than to say he would have been very much like Qui-Gon. I can just see him talking to Yoda when they found out that he was married:
Yoda: "The rules you must follow Master Anakin"
Anakin: "With all due respect Master Yoda ... "rules" ... I don't need no stinkin' rules ... the Force guides my life and it gives me the rules ..."
Yoda: "A PUNK you are Master Anakin ... but wise you have become ... "
Then they would spar with each other with Yoda winning in the end and smiling as he said ... "Much to learn you still have ..."
Then they would meet up with Obi-Wan at Dex's place and knock down a few "cold ones" and tell each other dirty jokes ... if you read some of the books you'll know that Yoda would be the one telling the most "crude" ones ... as Yoda would say ... "Quite the charmer, I am ..."

If he didn't have a family i suppose he go on as a Jedi, though I'm not sure that a family would stop him. He could also do something like fixing robots (or something like that). He was good at it and he liked it. A pilot is quite possible as well
