Will there ever be a Star Wars sequel trilogy (Episodes VII VIII and IX)?!
Question: I can see why there is confusion here. Years ago - before they made the 'prequels' - Lucas did say he wanted to do nine Star Wars films. However, while he was making the second prequel, he admitted that a third trilogy set after 'Return of the Jedi' would almost certainly not happen and also that that was his own fault for wasting time. I suppose it might be concievable if he dies, although the legal battles over the rights to the series would take many years (as happened with the Bond films when Cubby Broccoli died).

He originally had all of the movies thought out from 1-9 but he said in some magazine that he would do them all but right now he's doing the cartoon and the live action series so who know what he has planned to do next

The people at Lucas Ranch are saying that there are no plans to do anything of the sort but they are hoping that is not true....

I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen, but I wouldn't count on it anytime soon. Lucas will want to direct and/or oversee the production of the films. He's not about to engage in another decade long film project for awhile. There could come a time where he'd approve of another director to oversee the last three movies...but I don't see it happening for at least another decade at least. He may offer up the final trilogy as his life-ending work...you just never know.

i think that would be cool cause there are books that are after return of the jedi, there's one book where han and leia get married and have kids, and then one of the kid's get his own book, i read it, and pictured it into a movie, but yeah, that would be cool
