Do you believe all the hoop-lah about the Golden Compass movie that is coming ou!

Question: Yes, it's understandable.
The book takes a philosophical look at the nature of religion and faith, and challenges and reinterprets the traditional Christian dogma.
So a lot of Christians are upset about it, and blast the book and the author as being "atheist" or "heretical" or as an attack on the Christian Church.
I can understand how it might seem like that, but if you read the whole series it actually champions a strong faith.

What hooplah?

i read the book
it wasnt all that
maybe the movie will be the same

No, it's all bullcrap.

Now, it IS true that the author of the novels upon which the movie is based is an avowed atheist, and he has a pretty low opinion of religion. And it's true that the books reflect that.

However, the "anti-God" sentiment that may or may not show up in the movie, and the assertion that Hollywood is somehow promoting anti-Christianity by producing this movie, is a bunch of hooey. Hollywood is producing this movie TO MAKE MONEY. They don't care if the story is pro-religion or anti-religion; they only care if it makes them rich. How many movies in recent years have specifically addressed religion and made a ton of money? Passion of the Christ, Lion Witch and the Wardrobe, What Dreams May Come, hell even Bruce Almighty. Golden Compass is not being made to strike out against religion--don't give Hollywood that much credit. It's being made because it's a good plot with lots of cool special effects that will rake in cash. End of story.

Are you talking about all of the Anti-Christ talk?

I checked it out on snopes.com. Apparently the guy really is an atheist and the books were actually supposed to be against Christianity, and they are a reliable source for picking out rumor from truth.

With that being said, I don't think I would have gone into the movies and after having seen it realized that the movie was supposed to be Anti-Christian. If you take it for the cinematics, it might be an interesting movie.

I mean, if people boycotted The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe with all of the Christian symbolism, it will happen with this one.

Yeah, when ever a book becomes a movie everyone reads the book. Go to a Library when a book is coming out that has had good policy and it won't be there. Then you reserve it being thee 40th waiting for it.
