Answers: wat do u think, i thought that she shouldnt have said that i kinda lost a little respect for him. what do u think?!?

I've lost a lot of respect for him, and J.K. Rowling. She can't just, after nearly a decade of the Harry Potter universe, suddenly tell the world that their magical hero is a gay guy. It got her sales I guess.

I'll forever think of Dumbledore as the "gay headmaster".

I felt the same as u.

Of course he's gay!!! Most good wizards are!!!

And I've lost a little respect for you.

Guess What, Gandalf's gay with Saurmon too.

i keep the respect, just lost some for JK Rowling, why trhe crap is he gay?? it doesnt affect the story wutsoever.

More money from the Gay population maybe?

I think it's completely irrelevant whether he is gay. I also think it's stupid to "lose respect" for someone for that reason. Very judgemental.

Some of my good friends and relatives are gay.

i don't think she needed to say it but honestly who cares if his gay or not!! i guess your one of those ppl who doesn't like gays!!

How can you lose respect for a fictional character? Moreover, why lose respect for someone that you treasured and enjoyed, just because their beliefs aren't the same as yours?

J.K. Rowling had this all planned out since the first time her proverbial pen touched the paper, and there's plenty of evidence showing this to be true in the books. To me, it doesn't matter one way or another; the character was a fantastic character, one that I would have liked to have known in real life. I've had teachers like that, and I think people are now focusing on "oh no, he's gay, and I am homophobic" rather than "diversity is a good thing". It stinks; it's just another way for people to try to get the books out of school libraries.

now I'm starting to speculate if Gandalf the gray is actually Gandalf the gay.

Notice how she didn't reveal that until after the last book had been released for several weeks.

She likes to think of herself as an activist but of course she wouldn't want to effect that bottom. Hypocritical b_tch.

It doesn't really effect the story though.

I don't think anyone should lose respect because of their sexuality... but that did strike me as odd... I don't think that it really mattered to me that much.

Big deal! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, and it's the characters personalities that I'm interested in. Whether or not ANYONE is gay never even enters my mind! I think JKR made a great decision! She definitely got everybody's attention, and let's face it, she created the personas, she has the right to decide who is what.

WHAT!? Are you foreal? How can you lose respect for someone based on their sexuality!? How does his sexual orientation change who he is or how you see him? I think you must be narrow-minded and ignorant to say such a thing. I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for saying such things. I don't think she should have lied when she was asked, and I truly believe she did the right thing.

It only concerns me because he was so close with Harry, and what with all the problems with priests and young boys, well...JKR shoulda kept that one to herself.

I think it's irrelevant. I'll ignore for now that we're talking about a fictional character, and the fact that you can believe whatever you want about him, no matter what the author or anyone else says.

Why would you lose respect for someone because they're gay? I'm sorry if I come across as confrontational, and I don't mean to attack you, but this sentiment distresses me greatly.

Would you lose respect for someone because you found out they had a black person in their family, or because they had diabetes?

I think the reason she said it was to point out that people do have these prejudices. Because if you didn't have them, Dumbledore's sexual orientation would be so irrelevant as to be non-news.

So why do you think less of him? Do you suspect that he was sexually motivated in anything he did? Does it make you somehow suspect he was a pedophile or something? it's strangely common for people to link pedophilia and homosexuality, even though most pedophiles are straight. People also tend to focus more on the homosexual aspect of gay pedophiles than on the fact that they're pedophiles. An example here is with Catholic priests. The gender of the children they're molesting is irrelevant. The problem is that they're molesting children.

Rowling's "outing" of Dumbledore just serves to show how judgmental people can be about something that's not of their business whatsoever. There was no hint of his sexuality in the books, so he's obviously the same person he was before Rowling's announcement.

I didn't lose respect for Dumbledore just cos he was gay as he helped Harry a lot and was a great wizard. But i agree with those who said they lost respect for JK if she was going to announce it she should have made it clear in the books and not waited until her last book had already sold millions of copies. that indicates to me that she was afraid of the reaction of the public and may lose sales. Personally i wouldn't have given a damn if she'd have made it clear i would have respected her more for just coming out and saying it. x

i think it's stupid. i didn't lose respect for him or anything. i actually think it's a joke. i don't care so much, that it really hasn't changed anything i think of dumbledore. anyway, he's too old to be gay. like in this generation, there will be old gay guys, but in his, i'm not so sure. ok i'm not trying to be offensive or anything, but how many 60, 70 year old gays do you know? plus he dosen't act gay. j.k rowling said there were signs in the books, but i didn't see anything. i cannot imagine wise, old dumbledore snuggling, kissing and having sex with grindelwald. i'm laughing just thinking about it. i think j.k just did it for more media attention, now that the series is over. this does not change my love for harry potter or any of the characters.

What difference does it make? The private lives of the instructors are never really discussed in the books so how does it affect the story at all?
