This is a question about the movie "Army of Darkness":?!

Question: Is anyone else offended by the scene in the movie "Army of Darkness" when Ash (played by Bruce Campbell) says "Maybe, just maybe my boys can protect the book. Yeah, and maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot."? I respect Asians more than any other nationality of people, and this offends me. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way as I do.

Yes

dont dog a great classic, man! He could just as easily said Japanese or Russian...whats the big deal?

Not everyone can be good at everything. I've never even heard of Chinese jet pilots; I think that's what makes it so funny. You only really hear about Japanese, American, German, and British jet pilots typically... but Chinese??

EDIT --- Hey buddy, don't come into my questions and accuse me of being racist. I have reported you to Yahoo and will continue to do so. Play by the rules the rest of us do -- Ask a question, wait for answers, add details if you want. But don't ruin other people's questions over this. It's petty.

By the way, read Andrew L's answer to your question, he makes a better point than any of us. A white American department store worker is so much different than a Chinese pilot. That also makes it funny.

It's a movie and if you can't respect artistic license then don't watch it. And if you can't handle the occasional bit of racism or an offensive remark now and then, I propose you stay away from television, movies, newspapers and anyone who believes in freedom of speech. I was not offended, personally.

No, it doesn't offend me. He's comparing himself to something/someone that he is nothing like.

But I'm not asian.

But I love "Army of Darkness".

It is an odd statement and rather jarring, but i let it slide as more of Ash's character than anything else.

when i used to go clubbing (as i was the designated driver), one of my cronies use to say "I am harder that Chinese Algebra.", which bothered me to no end

Maybe you just don't understand the context of this line.

The metaphor he is making is that Ash is neither Chinese, nor and Air Pilot, he is in fact a white American department store worker. He is vastly dissimilar to a Chinese jet pilot. This discrepancy is supposed to illustrate how far away from actually defending the necronomicon his soldiers are.

There is nothing offensive or demeaning about the Chinese whatsoever in this quote.

If you are offended it is because you lack an understanding of metaphor and the English language.

no that was not offensive.i dont think theres a person on the planet besides who that would bother.i have a better question, why do you admire asians above all else?

and if u dont want ppl to talk trash in 1 of yer threads, dont end it by saying"shut the **** up"
