I feel the same way you do about the movie. Love Santino, he's probably my favorite. Of course, you cant deny the greatness of Brando as the don or of young Michael. I have always thought Luca Brasi was one of the most bad *** motherfuckers ever. Tom Hagen is a cool player too. Women actors have never impressed me that much, but Diane Keaton as Kay Adams is an exception.

My favorite scenes?

The opening, where the undertaker pleads with Don Corleone for his support, and Brando jumps off the screen with "You can act like a Man Is what you can do!!!" - Brilliant

Of course, the climax in the Restaurant. Flawless bit of directing by Coppola if I say so myself. So brutal.

Watching Sonny get hyped up about revenging his fathers death, and the contrast a calm Michael offers.

What do you think about part 2? I used to like it better. I still think it has lots of depth and gives great insight into the nature of the two Dons; but it is no longer my favorite of the two. The first is a more complete movie - it has better flow from begining to end - while the second film acts more as a very good companion piece.

I think there are a couple of scenes in that film that basically define film, full stop.

The first scene of the wedding and Vito Corleone receiving tributes in his office I can watch again and again and again without ever tiring.

The scene in the restaurant where Michael has to get the gun from the loo and shoot McCluskey is the tensest scene in the history of cinema.

Those for me are the high points of what is already one of the best films ever made. The amazing thing is that Coppola nearly reached the same heights all over again with Apocalypse Now.

Well of course it is one of the great crime dramas of all time.i thought all the performances were great, except perhaps for Diane Keaton's.i didn't feel the chemistry between her and Pacino.interestingly enough,Mario Puzo's novel, while definitely a bestseller, was generally considered a trashy, sensationalistic pulper.Coppola didn't want to direct the movie, felt it was full of racial stereotypes, and generally demeaned the Italian culture. He had to be convinced that it would be great if he, an Italian-American could make it more authentic and sympathetic,so he reluctantly agreed.Of course, once he started production the studio tried to hinder his authentic portrayal every chance they got.The tremendous box- office success validated Coppola in their eyes,so he was given almost complete creative control of "The Godfather 2",resulting in one of the rare sequels considered to be superior to the original.
