Wizard of Oz 1939 Movie?!

Question: Are any of the characters from the 1039 Wizard of Oz movie still alive? I have checked IMD and it looks like they have all passed. I was really sad to read the not only did Judy Garland die from an overdose of barbituates but apparantly so did Auntie Em at the young age of 81.

As of February 2007, the actor who played the Munchkin coroner was still alive. He may still be with us now since I didn't find an obituary on line.

Auntie Em died from a barbituate overdose???

Certainly all of the main characters are dead.

There might be a few munchkins ... or extras.

Oh ... and Toto to.

There is one guy still alive. He is the munchin in the green suit that hands a lollipop to Dorthy. He's really old though.

yes auntie em committed suicide with drug overdose and a plastic bag over her head. And there are a few munchkins still alive that do tours, or there was the last I knew.

I am not sure about the stars but a few years ago I met a couple of the munchkins from the 1939 movie. So I would imagine that there are some people who are still around that were in the movie.

yea i hated that movie

Mickey Carroll (one of the munchkins) is still alive. chances are that some of the other munchkins are still alive, especially the ones that played children, but i really don't know.
the wicked witch of the west died in my hometown a couple years before i was born :]
oh, and toto is dead, to whoever suggested that.

Any actor who was 20 in 1939 would now be at least 88 years old. So, its possible that some are still alive, but that becomes more doubtful with each passsing year.

That movie is even more interesting when yoou consider that it is an allegory about the Populist movement and the Bimetallism debate of the late 19th century. Read Henry Littlefield's original essay on this topic at this website:

i love that everyone else seems to be watching this movie right along with me now!

I do not think there are many of the cast members still alive....certainly no main characters....perhaps an old munchkin.....

Interesting fact about Auntie Em though....I did not know that.
