"Imagine if there was a war and nobody showed up"?!

Question: That's a line from something... a song, or a movie voice-over, or something similar. It just kept running through my head today whilst watching the various war commemorations today. Can anyone tell me what it's from?

"What if they gave a war and nobody showed up?"

Big slogan in the 60s

There was a movie titled Suppose They Gave A War and Nobody Came? It was a very funny movie. It was 1970 or so when it came out. It was redone as "Tank" in 1984.

don't know but here's a thought,imagine no wars.......................................

Nice line, but the military-industrial-congressional complex is too well-oiled to allow this scenario to happen. They would sooner institute a draft.

There was a line like that in the film 'Julia' when Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave were playing a word association game - don't know if that's what you're remembering.

I think it's just a rhetorical question current in the 1960's-70's.

It's probably not "Suppose They Gave a War and Nobody Came?" (1970), a lame service comedy.

Could be from "How I Won the War" (1967) with John Lennon as Private Gripweed, directed by Richard Lester.
"This film features former Beatle John Lennon and Roy Kinnear as ill-fated enlisted men in under the inept command of Lieutenant Earnest Goodbody. The story unwinds mostly in flashbacks of Lieutenant Goodbody who has lower-class beginnings and education which make him a poor officer who commands one of the worst units of the army."
