I think you're confusing Rosalind Russell with Joan Crawford (easy to do, they do look alike and sound alike)
Anyway, Joan Crawfore starred in a 1964 movie that was called Strait-Jacket. It was about a woman locked up for a double murder of her husband and mistress. She's released and the daughter appears to have taken up the ax as a hobby of sorts.
