Zodiac movie?!
Question: I have some questions about this killer and your opinions on him. I am totally confused about him. All of it just seems so odd. I mean, some serial killers have motives and patterns. I just don't see it in this one. His first victims are David Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen. He was shot once; she was shot FIVE times. Both died. Next were Darlene Ferrin and Mike Mageau. She was shot five times; he was shot four times. He survived; she didn't. Next were Cecilia Shepard and Bryan Hartnell. He was stabbed 6 times in the back and she was stabbed 10 times in the front and back. Again, she died; he survived. The last CONFIRMED was Paul Stine. Shot once and died. Ok. All the first three were couples on "lover's lanes". Isolated. With couples 2 and 3, he focused on the women and killed them but the men survived... Then there was Paul Stine. A cab driver shot on a street corner. It totally doesn't fit! Why break pattern TWICE? Why kill Paul? Why not finish off the men? Who do you think did it?

I think he first started to keep a pattern with guns focusing on women. But I think with all of the media attention he needed to ditch his pattern to accumulate bodies, so that his cyphers made the front page. That is just the impression that I got. I wasn't alive during these murders, so I don't have first hand knowledge.
Serial killers often follow patterns but not always. The big thing for zodiac was the media attention and killing the cab driver got him a lot of that. If you like serial killers read Ann Rule, start with The Stranger Beside Me. I have read and watched many movies on this topic and just when you think that you have them figured out they break pattern. The killers that seem more involved with the pattern seem to care less about media attention.
