I suppose I can understand it. After all LOTR is also a big hit with more "adult" fans. What I dont get is the obsession with the HSM films by people older than...I dont know...six?
I've never seen one or read one of the books. I don't have the desire either. I'm not into the fantasy Alice In Wonderland type crap.
I do not understand the hype either. I have not read, seen, or bought anything that is related to Harry Potter. Nor do I have any interest to in the future.
i know. it's a stupid book. and the book is aimed towards people my age(13-17) and i don't even like it, so ADULTS who like it are just lame.
If you read the series, you may understand why folks love it.
As far as the films are concerned....NOT nearly as good as the books and actually lacking major parts of the story.
I read these with my son...and we have actually laughed and cried while reading them.
ur not the onlly one. my 32 year old cousin is a fanatic, and its kills me to be around her when she talks about it. she watches at least one of the movies about once a day, has pictures all over her room of it (creepy), harry potter blankets, and everything else. she has all the books and everything.
i just don't understand what the fuss about it is, even for kids.

The Harry Potter books are not just about magic. They are about children dealing with the challenges of living. Growing up an orphan in a house where you are despised by your own kin. Dealing with a killer trying to finish the job by murdering you. Ineffectual politicos, and uncaring bureaucrats willing to do hurtful things to keep appearances normal in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary. They are about adults trying to do what they think is right, but getting it all wrong. They are about pride and predjudice. They are about dedication and self-sacrifice when your friends are at stake. Just because they are fantasy doesn't mean the story is shallow or trite. Read the books, so you won't be totally ignorant.
i had no initial interest in harry potter..then one winter break i was super bored and read all 6 books and they were really well written. the movies are nowhere near the books in terms of entertainment, quality, and if you read it thoroughly you can apply the stories to any age group. sometimes its fun to read a book that takes you away from reality and the author created an amazingly creative and well thought out world. it's hard not to get caught up in it cause the writing isn't bad. i dont really understand why you would hate something you haven't even tried yet. either way its just something fun to enjoy that isnt so real its depressing.
