The Golden Compass?!

Question: I read this series when I was 11 and when I watched the trailer for the upcoming movie I literally screamed with excitement.

The people in the office next door came in to check on me (they know I'm the only one in the office most of the days of the week)

I've seen a lot of posts about how this is an anti-christian movie etc etc but I'm not going to lie---I don't give a crap. I'm so stoked to see this movie that I get all giddy every time I think about it.

Who else is stoked for this movie?!

I stoked to be seeing the movie as well but I really wish people would stop saying the movie is anitchristian. The books don't attack Christianity or chastise people who believe in god. The premise of the book is that the church of that world has taken on a dictator like position and is actively taking measures to suppress any free thought in the world. Overcoming a dictator or malevolent force has been the theme of a lot of movies and books. It's not as though the idea of organized religion taking extreme measures to preserve it's own interests in unheard of. The Crusades, The Inquisition, Witch Trials etc etc.

Well, are you Christian? Atheist? Anyhow, I won't see it until DVD. I hear the movie removed the anti-Christian themes however.

I have not read that books yet. But I must admit that after hearing about all the hipe against the books I am curious. I will probably be seeing the movie. But I have already purchased the book. Sometimes I don't think ppl realized that the more media (even negative) they generate about a book (or movie) the more it makes ppl want to read it. I had never even heard of the book until I started getting emails about boycotting it. I don't know about you, but the quickest way to get me to read something is to tell me not to.
