I haven't seen "The Mist" yet, but I would say they are different and not at all a sequel. "The Fog" had murderous pirate ghosts who killed people. "The Mist" appears to be a more supernatural and mysterious kind of thing going on. But yes, the element of the fog is obviously the same.

yeah, it like the same story just changed a little bit
it is a new movie, based on a steven king book of the same name.
