?

The Corpse Bride (2005)~also by Tim Burton movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0121164/

James & the Giant Peach (1996) (produced by Tim Burton)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116683/

Hansel & Gretel (1954)~puppetry of a different style, with music from the opera by Engelbert Humperdinck (No, not the singer of the Sixties-Seventies; the composer they borrowed his name from.)

The Puppetoon Movie (1987) by George Pal
http://imdb.com/title/tt0127745/
Pal included puppetry in several movies, including "tom thumb" (no capital letters), starring Russ Tamblyn as the title character. You might know him as Riff in "West Side Story"; he's also in "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers".

I'm not sure if these are what you have in mind. Is it the puppetry that intrigues you? Actually, the style used in Tim Burton's films is quite different from everything that went before. If this isn't what you want, I can find something for you if you supply more details. There are many stop-motion films, but they don't have the same look as "The Nightmare Before Christmas"; musicals in this style are rather rare.

Oh! I see someone did suggest "James & the Giant Peach"! I was going to find a link to some material for it, but someone got to the title first. Oh well, I'll go ahead and place the link to the information anyway, just to have a more-complete list.

The Corpse Bride. It's stop motion, very beautiful and it's very entertaining! (plus it's made by Tim Burton as well.)

the corpse bride and I think James and the giant peach was done in a similar animation style(based on the classic book)

wow..the corpse bride..yehey!!!

TV film Halloweentown
