That's a good question, maybe because their detention started at breakfast time on Saturdays. Just a shot in the dark.
I was under the impression that as they were all under a weekend detention that on the Friday, the principal would have said something like 'see you all at breakfast tomorrow' for the 8 hour detention.
I read somewhere that the actual high school where the movie was filmed called their Saturday detention, The Breakfast Club. Ah.....so go the urban legends.
