Question: About a boy, I think a prince, he is in trouble and cries on a small stone carving. His salt water tears bring the carving to life and it grows by eating metals. In the end of the movie it is turned back into a small carving the same way it came to life, salt water, this time due to the ocean.

"Galgameth" (1996) is the actual spelling of this unusual film, which also is called "The Adventures of Galgameth". The version I saw used the latter title, but there's no mistaking that story, is there? I ended up wishing that I had taped the film; now, they'll probably never show it again. By the way, sometimes the date is listed as 1997; perhaps there are different editions.
