Blood Diamond...(I know it came out a while ago, but...)?!

Question: Alright girls, how many of you still want that big shiny rock as a symbol of your marriage after seeing this movie?

- knowing there's a 15% chance some poor kid got his hand cut off, or had to dig it out of the dirt during a 15 hour forced day of hard manual labor.

You create the demand for diamonds. For which, a market supplies what you want. Which in turn, creates entry points for corrupt black market activity.

Even without seeing this film, I always thought everything diamonds represent were the opposite of what marriage was supposed to be about. Diamonds = rich status symbol, want vs. need, materialism, 3 months' salary etc. Marriage = love for better or worse, understanding, commitment, etc.

Try moissanite girls, it's just as "shiny and pretty" as a diamond, but without the whole forced child slave labor black market part.

P.S. don't even think about saying anything like: "my diamond is a 'non-conflict' diamond so it's ok" b/c that's crap.

I already knew about the conflicts in Africa before the movie came out, and I'm glad it's making people think twice about throwing away hard earned money on these things.

I never understood why men have to go spend hard earned money on diamonds to show how much they care for someone.

Woman who want diamonds, and still want one even though they now know about the high possibility that it has someones blood on it are shallow.

I didn't want to wear my diamond after watching the movie, but then I realized that everything that capitalism and excess call for hurts the country the raw product comes from. Now, this doesn't mean that I wont continue to purchase things, it just means that I am going to look for more consciously produced items (organics, low emissions, hemp, etc.). Also, I'm asking for land now instead of jewelry. Hows that sound?

i still want that big shiny rock. i don't believe everything i see in a movie. i'm not saying that the conflict isn't real i'm just saying that it wouldn't have been made if they couldn't pull at peoples hearts. there will always be less fortunate people in the world.

do you still drive a car? do you purchase products that were shipped in by truck? do you consider yourself responsible for the war?
