What are good movies to write a 20 page research paper on?!

Question: There should be ample research material on the films (ie, JSTOR articles, etc.). I need two to compare and contrast but all the films I think of do not have sufficient research material.

They should be (or have once been) moderately well-known. In other words, my english teacher ought to have watched them at one point.

Have you considered the movie version Of Mice and Men and Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thornton? Your teacher can always rent the movies in order to refresh her memory.

Sling Blade is a 1996 film drama set in rural Arkansas. It tells the fictional story of a simple man named Karl Childers who is released from a psychiatric hospital where he has lived since murdering his mother and her lover at age 12. He befriends a young boy (Frank), begins a friendship with the boy's mother (Linda) and must confront the mother's abusive boyfriend (Dole), as well as his own dark past.
Both movies deal with a murder committed by a man that is mentally challenged. Both take place during the Depression years or shortly thereafter. Both men are looking for a better way of life but that is cut short by an act of violence. Both men are not bad people. In Sling Blade, despite all Karl's efforts to be the good man that he should be and follow the Bible, he ends up killing Doyle to save his new friend and his mother Linda. Lenny, despite his promise to be gentle and good, accidently kills Curley's wife. Curley, the boss's son is a young man who is aggressive, short-tempered and a bully towards Lennie from when they first meet. Doyle, like Curley,is that way with Karl, the boy, and his mother Linda.

Common themes:
The theme of loneliness is manifested many times in the work, Of Mice and Men, and is often the dominant theme. This theme occurs during many circumstances but is not present from start to finish. There are many themes that are present most of the way through such as sacrifice, friendship and comradship. However, there is only one theme that is present from beginning to end, and this theme is the pursuit of dreams.

In Sling Blade, there is also the theme of loneliness, i.e, with all three of the main characters Karl, Frank and Linda.
There is also sacrifice, friendship, and comradship. Karl sacrifices his new-found freedom in order to save the boy and his mother from years of future abuse by Doyle. Lonely Linda sacrifices a lot when she settles for being with Doyle. Also, Karl and Frank become good friends and comrads--just like Lenny and George. As mentioned above, Karl had hopes (dreams) of being non-institutionalized.

How about The Little mermaid and Anastasia?

One takes the traditional view of the fairy tale princess, while the other is a bit more realistic (with the added feature that Anastasia takes an active part in deciding her fate, while Ariel still has to have prince Charming rescue her)

Try some of the 30 and 40's movies. They were great on histroy and should be easy to research.
My favorites,Gone With The Wind,Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,Grapes of Wrath, This Good Earth.
Watch the TCM channel. Get history and the way this country used to be.

Depends on what kind of films.

You could do it on war, such as 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Flags of Our Fathers', 'Letters from Iwo Jima', or even 'Schindlers List'

Citizen Cain
Schindler's List
Amadeus
Old Yeller
Diary of Anne Frank
Walk The Line
The Yearling
