Morgen Freeman?!

Question: Is it just me or is Morgan Freeman in more different movies then any other actor? I ask this because I just saw the preview for "Wanted". I mean he's a good actor but He's just burning out his character like so many good actors before him.

I strongly disagree with your assessment of Morgan Freeman's talent. It's interesting to me how most movie connoisseurs do not seem to say the same thing about actors such as: Al Pacino; Tom Cruise; Arnold Schwarzenegger; Bruce Willis; and Russell Crowe.

In my opinion Al Pacino is also a phenomenal actor, and he is a master of the screen that I enjoy watching. In fact, I own most the the movies he's appeared in. However, Pacino does not have the same amount of depth or talent as Morgan Freeman. Most movie enthusiasts who have taken an unbiased look at Pacino's acting depth, recognize that he cannot play various types of roles and genres either.

Why? Pacino was typecast as the "bad guy" early on in his career, and as a result he has never been able to play comedy well, or do certain types of drama or romantic comedies.

Freeman, on the other hand, can do comedy, drama, romance, play the nurturing father role, cowboy in the west, and other roles. In comparison, Pacino would never be able to make a believable on-screen cowboy or play the caring, concerned father role in most cases. As a matter of fact he failed miserably as a nurturing father in both "Heat" and "Simone." In both films, his onscreen father characters had a rough edge to them that worked against the characters.

There are three other actors I can name immediately who are equally as talented as Freeman. The three are Dustin Hoffman; Tom Hanks; and Denzel Washington, all who have the same ability as Freeman to play various roles and make them believable.

Tom Hanks, who has also been very convincing in most movie roles in past years, although recently he seems to have opted to perform in about 4-5 movies that didn't have the incredible scripts of his previous works. "The Ladykillers," "The Terminal," "The Da Vinci Code," "Road to Perdition," and "Catch Me If You Can," have all been cited as Hanks failures by many critics. I happen to also own most of those, so I disagree with the critics on those movies.

An actor who is equally as limited as Pacino and not as talented as most other actors is Tom Cruise.

If film-goers strictly paid to see a film based on an actor's talent, I am sure that Tom Cruise would not gross too high, because he isn't as talented as the box office numbers indicate.

My point is, Morgan Freeman is not as bad as the following actors: David Spade, Rob Schneider, Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray, who are all very limited in the roles they can convincingly play; as well as the genres they can star in.

In the case of Denzel Washington, they actually changed the role of Sgt. Alonzo Harris from a white person to a black officer, to accommodate Denzel Washington into the role. Initially, both Tobey Maguire and Bruce Willis had auditioned for the role but after Denzel Washington screen tested the directors accommodated him by changing the color of the character. Now seriously, do you really think that Tobey Maguire would have won a Best Actor Oscar if he had played the role?

Denzel Washington; Tom Hanks; Dustin Hoffman; and Morgan Freeman are all good actors with a great acting depth. Granted, not every film they make is great but they have more successful films than failures and that's all that really matters.

I don't want to see him play God again.

I agree. His is a phenomenal actor but its like he just doesn't fit every character. Sort of like Denzel and I love Denzel.

He's in a lot of movies, but I don't think he is burning out his character. I would watch a movie just because he was in it, and he has played a wide variety of roles. I really like his voice too. Great voice for narrating or voice overs or animated movies.

great actor
