I understand filming something normally and then reversing the film...but how do!
Question: I was watching an amateur video called "Balancing Point" and I just can't figure out how they filmed it in reverse like that. I mean, I know they don't use magic, but what's the trick here? At least I don't THINK it's magic

It's easy if you have the money. You just need one of those reverse cameras. They run off the principle that time isn't actually moving forward, only our perception makes it seem that way.
Currently, the Universe is reversing back to the singularity, but we don't perceive it thusly. Reverse filming, however, wouldn't be possible if we were currently in the expansion phase of the Universe. Until then, shoot away. I love a good reverse film.
The trick in Balancing Point is that they carefully analyzed (or practiced) with movements that looked, when reversed, very natural and real. When the man walks to and from the snow-piles, he's actually walking backwards very carefully -- but when played in reverse he appears to walk forwards.
Likewise, when he threw the snowballs into the river, he was careful to make broad gestures and leave his arms in a kind of "summoning" position. When played in reverse, it looks like he's calling the snowballs up out of the water.
Quite a work of art.

actually they do use magic... they can't admit to it because it would be banned worldwide, but it is all magic and only true believers can master this art.
